Half back Part of a half-raw cattle hide, or side, after the removal of the belly.
Hard grain goat Goatskin leather that has been glazed in a damp condition in at least four directions and hand boarded. Bears a characteristic "pinhead" grain pattern. Vegetable tanned. Also called Morocco.
Harness leather Grain leather with a plain finish made from strong flexible, curried, cattle hide. Usually with a thickness of 4 to 6mm.
Helvetla leather Yellow cattle hide leather that is tough, flexible and greasy and has been pre-tanned using salt and alum, before being treated with a combination of fish and animal oils. The yellow colour is caused by oxidation.
Hide The unplit skin of a fully-grown animal, such as cattle, horses, camels, elephants and whales.
Hide split Mechanically separated inner or under layer of a hide or skin. See Split, Grain Split and Flesh Split.
Hippy velour Patchy looking or mottled suede leather finished on the unfleshed side and made from an unfleshed hide or skin. Also known as Wild suede.
Horse butt The rear of a horse hide, representing about one-third of the whole hide.
Hose leather Strong, flexible cattle hide leather that has been shaved level and waterproofed with soft grease.
